That big “L” …

That big “L” you see on my forehead was placed there by the Usual Suspects who dragooned me into a fixed game at which I lost the sum of $three.fitty. However, the peach cobbler and ice cream I ate with great relish was probably worth twice the amount my so-called friends took from this poor, unguarded, trusting pensioner. I should have known it was not going to be my night before I ever arrived at the Debster and Oz’s residence. On my way to Edmond, I was thinking about the lovely MB and whether I’d be able to get to Arkansas to see her soon and, as sometimes happens, I was zooming up the Broadway Extension sorta kinda on autopilot. I autopiloted myself to Danforth and Bryant and almost turned into the Faircloud addition, which was MB’s house three houses ago, before I realized I was going to the wrong place altogether. A rather senior moment. Don’t play cards with a very tall, half-naked man named Ed, btw. It’s like tugging on Superman’s cape. Just not a good idea.

This TED video is totally worth the time. The artist, Miru Kim, captures photographs and short videos of underground and discarded architechture all over the world, appearing nude at times in her own images for reasons she explains in her talk. I loved a great many of these images. And, no, sorry, the nudity informs the images but will unlikely appeal to your purient interests.

I seemed to get some dust in my eyes watching this video. Maybe it was onions being cut. Anyway, I am grateful we are calling back 33,000 troops from Afghanistan and this is one of the reasons why:

There are always cute pictures of cute little animals doing cute little things to be found on the internet. Sometimes, as we know, animals aren’t always so dame cute. Sometimes, animals can be real dicks. Enjoy.

WTF?

Owly Images

RebL believes this is a picture of me from the way-back-when. I contend it is my evil twin, Black Jack, who terrorized OKC in his black Pontiac Firebird and tried to discredit me in a variety of ways. It obviously could not be me: look at that bug/animal on his upper lip. That can’t possibly be me. Really.
I heard from both my kids on Father’s Day. They made being a father a huge blessing in my life because they are both so wonderful as adults. Also, Jack and I concluded that the worst film father of all time was The Great Santini and that Darth Vader can suck it. Yay! for Jack, the funniest man I know.

Happy Father’s Day

It’s an eclipsing full moon and I can’t sleep, so I thought I’d blog some bits and pieces

Gettin’ Real in the Whole Foods Parking Lot
Since they are building one in my ‘hood, this is likely my future. In addition, this was sent to me by the brightest and most wonderful woman I know: RebL, my lovely daughter. Also, I’m cheesed at Whole Foods because work there has shut off one of my rat-in-the-maze routes down Grand Blvd. at Flip’s and narrowed Western south of 63rd, making that intersection gridlock-ish. Grrrr.

If this doesn’t piss you off, you’re likely going to vote Republican and I don’t want to know you.

All the GOP folks who are thumpin’ the Bible and praising “Atlas Shrugged”? Suck this:

“[T]o be a follower of both Rand and Christ is not possible. The original Objectivist was a type of self-professed anti-Christ who hated Christianity and the self-sacrificial love of its founder. She recognized that those Christians who claimed to share her views didn’t seem to understand what she was saying.

Many conservatives admire Rand because she was anti-collectivist. But that is like admiring Stalin because he opposed Nazism. Stalin was against the Nazis because he wanted to make the world safe for Communism. Likewise, Rand stands against collectivism because she wants the freedom to abolish Judeo-Christian morality. Conservative Christians who embrace her as the “enemy-of-my-enemy” seem to forget that she considered us the enemy,” – Joe Carter.

In politics, there was the so-called GOP debate put on by CNN in New Hampshire. Whatever possibility for debate there was, which was slim, was extinquished when Pawlenty refused to back up his “Obamneycare” comment on the Sunday talk shows. He’s rightly being called a wimp, IMHO. Meanwhile, Michelle Bachman (R-MN) won the debate by getting the headline for announcing the filing of her presidential committee papers with the FEC, being the only woman on the stage and for not having her head explode with all the cognitive dissonance. Here’s a little info on Ms. Bachman:

Just a personal word: I’m so sorry Kim is dead. I don’t know what happened and I don’t know when the funeral will be. Much might be said, but I’ll say this: she was there for me when I was in the hospital and when I was sick at home and I’ll always be grateful for that. She is in my prayers and I hope others will join that. Rest in Peace, Kimberly.

Sunday: considering God and the Infinite

There are times, as today, that MCARP considers the infinite and his place in it. He says he wants to be an ant again rather than a schlub who lives on 15th Street. I understand. This new timelapse photography of the heavens in the Chilean desert is astounding: it gives us some perspective about what our real place is in the universe.

The TED talk video below is also, in a way, about our place in the universe. It is about those who are on the internet and who connect with other humans and, collectively, change the world for individuals and, therefore, for all of us. We are all of us creators and collectively we are THE creator, this man says.

I am somewhere in between these two videos this summer Sunday. I’ll take a dip in my mom’s swimming pool and eat some of the ham and beans I cooked yesterday. Not much. But, if just one of you watches both of these videos and actually thinks about them, I’ll have done much indeed.
